Directors of Kamal Sponge Steel and Power Kamaljeet Singh Ahluwalia and Prashant Ahluwalia, both facing CBI probe in coal scam, are in the list of top 10 Income Tax assessees in the ‘Individual’ category for 2011-12, according to an RTI reply.
The I-T department data shows that Kadapa MP Y.S Jaganmohan Reddy is at number three in the list of top 10 Income Tax assessees in the country, behind Shireen who is at the top spot and Kamaljeet Singh at number two.
Prashant Kumar Ahluwalia is at number nine in the list, which has been made public by the Income Tax department in response to an RTI query by activist Subhash Agrawal.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is also in the list of top 10 assessees in ‘Trust’ category whereas PSU ONGC and banking behemoth State Bank of India are top two assessees in the ‘Company’ category.
Other top earners during 2011-12 in the ‘Individual’ category include Ramamurthy Praveen Chandra, Asim Ghosh, Indrani Patnaik, Sandhiyagu Martin, Mansoor Nizam Patel and Bavihalli Rudragowda.
In the ‘Artificial Juridical Person’ category, Oil Industries Development Board tops the chart followed by Uttar Pradesh Awas Evam Vikas Parishad, DSP Blackrock Mutual Fund, Uttar Bihar Gramin Bank, Kolkata Port Trust, AP Grameena Vikas Bank, Baroda Uttar Pradesh Gramin Bank, Prathma Bank, Toyota Motor Corporation and Chhattisgarh Gramin Bank.
The data shows that in ‘Association of Persons’ category, IFFCO comes first, followed by ICICI Prudential Mutual Fund, HUDA, The Saraswat Cooperative Bank Limited, KRIBHCO, The COSMOS Co-op Limited, Gurgaon Gramin Bank, The Shamrao Vithal Co-op Bank Limited, The Andhra Pradesh State Co-operative Bank Limited and Afcons Gunanusa Joint Venture.
In the ‘Trust’ category, besides BCCI, other top I-T assessees are Reliance Mutual Fund, which tops the list, followed by HDFC Mutual Fund, Birla Sun Life Mutual Fund, UTI Mutual Fund, Kotak Mahindra Mutual Fund, SBI Mutual Fund, Franklin Tempelton Mutual Fund, Credit Guarantee Fund Trust for Micro and Small Enterprises and IDFC Mutual Fund.
In ‘Company’ category, top assessees following ONGC and SBI are National Stock Exchange of India, Reliance Industries, Life Insurance Corporation of India, Piramal Enterprises Limited, NMDC Limited, Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited, NTPC Limited and Tata Steel Limited, the RTI reply shows.
V.M Salgaokar Sales International leads the tally in ’Firm’ category followed by Veerbhadrappa Sangappa and Company, CJ Shah and Company, Golden Trust Financial Services, Narbheram Vishram, Dell Products LP, BSC C and C Joint Venture, Microsoft Licensing GP, Andhra Pragathi Grameen Bank and KPMG.
The top 10 assessees of The ‘Hindu Undivided Family’ category include Gangadhar Narsingdas Agrawal, Gurdeep Singh Chadha, PV Gopalakrishna, Rajinder Singh Chadha, C Suba Reddy, Manpreet Singh Chadha, A Velumani, Brij Bhushan Lal and Sons, Girish Suresh Vaze and Ajit Suresh Vaze.
The disclosure came on the directives of Central Information Commission which has ordered to make the information public.
The then Information Commissioner M.L Sharma had said the information should be disclosed as it may motivate such assessees and others to pay their taxes in an honest and transparent manner.
