Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today called upon parties to endorse the Nagoya protocol and help achieve biodiversity targets.
Speaking at the high-level segment meet of the Conference of Parties 11 at the Conference of Biological Biodiversity, he said India has endorsed the protocol and is committed to it.
The PM announced $50-million support for setting up of an institute of biodiversity capacity-building and announced a similar initiative for capacity-building in developing nations.
He later left the venue to unveil a pylon set-up commemorating the event here.
Japanese Environment Minister Hiroyuki Nagayama emphasised the need to work together to achieve biodiversity targets.
He assured Japan would support developing countries by extending financial support.
Union Environment Minister Jayanti Natarajan called for the need to achieve consensus on revenue mobilisation issues.
Even an interim understanding of revenue mobilisation would augur well for achieving the targets set at Nagoya, she said.
