The country’s paper and pulp industry needs to lay special thrust on green initiatives to dismiss the perception that it consumes plenty of natural resources and pollutes the surroundings, Mr. N Gopal Ratnam, Chairman & Managing Director, Seshasayee Paper & Boards Ltd, said.
Delivering the address at Papertech 2012 organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry and the Indian Paper Manufacturers Association here, he said India is the 11th largest producer and consumer of paper in the world and it is imperative to adopt Green standards and conserve natural resources to ensure profitability.
In fact, the sector ensures the plantation of trees to make up for the consumption, he added.
Speaking on ‘Make Indian Pulp & Paper Industry World-Class’, Mr. K S Kasi Viswanathan, Chairman, PaperTech 2012 said conservation of energy, environment and water conservation are the key objectives of the on-going conclave.
The Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA) shared their best practices on conservation related to the paper industry.
