Indo-Canadians bid farewell to the Indian High Commissioner S.M. Gavai, who is retiring this month from the Indian Foreign Services after 37 years of service.
The outgoing diplomat was presented a memento on Sunday by Naval Bajaj, President of the Indo-Canada Chamber of Commerce.
Consul General of India Preeti Saran and several other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Gavai also expressed his gratitude towards the Indo-Canadian community for its support and encouragement.
Speaking on the occasion, Gavai informed that Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird will visit India next month to discuss bilateral relations and a shared commitment to a successful Canada-India Free Trade Agreement (FTA).
The visit would be followed by the Prime Minister Stephen Harper visit to India later this year.
Harper had earlier visited India to meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in November 2009. Both leaders also met when the Indian Prime Minister visited Canada in June 2010 to attend G20 Summit here.
India and Canada have bilateral agreements in various fields such as agriculture, energy, mutual legal assistance, and air services.
