In an effort to generate employment for youth belonging to Scheduled Castes, India Tourism Development Corporation today signed an agreement with National Scheduled Castes Finance and Development Corporation (NSFDC) to undertake skill development programme for them.
The skill development programme will be conducted as part of the Tourism Ministry’s ‘Hunar se Rozgar’ initiative.
The ITDC-run Ashok Institute of Hospitality and Tourism Management will impart training to candidates and develop human resource for tourism and hospitality sectors, a senior ITDC official said.
ITDC will also provide all training infrastructure along with material and trainers. The candidates would be provided with free uniform, tool kits and meals and at the end of the course, successful candidates will be awarded certificates jointly by ITDC and NSFDC.
On its part, NSFDC will assist ITDC in short-listing and selection of students. Besides bearing training cost, NSFDC will also provide a monthly stipend of Rs 1,000 to each trainee.
Under the programme, the selected candidates will first undergo six to eight weeks training in the field of food and beverage service and food production.
During 2011-12, ITDC had provided job skills to 1,590 young people as against the target of 1,500. “For the current fiscal, we have set a target to provide job skills to 5,000 youth and is confident to achieve it,” the official said.
