Ration shops in Kerala would be made more user-friendly and the functions of the Civil Supplies Department would be made transparent, the Food and Civil Supplies Minister, Mr Anoop Jacob, said here today.
The Government would ensure ration cardholders get their quantum of quality food articles without fail every week, Mr Jacob, the KC-J nominee, who was sworn in last week, told a meeting organised by the Kesari Memorial Journalist Trust here.
The Re 1 per kg rice scheme would be extended to more categories of people and the main focus of the Congress-led UDF Government was implementation of welfare programmes, he said.
On his victory in the Piravom assembly by-poll, Mr Jacob, son of former Minister and KC-J leader, T. M. Jacob, who died in October last, said his victory was proof of the success of the UDF Government’s programmes.
The victory in Piravom was expected and the huge margin of more than 10,000 votes had increased his responsibility, he added.
