Women over 58 years will get a 50 per cent concession in train fares from June 1. Till date, women of 60 years and above got the 50 per cent concession.
Men senior citizens will get concession of 40 per cent instead of the existing level of 30 per cent. But, men will get the benefit only after they attain the age of 60.
“The concession will be admissible on tickets purchased on and after June 1. In case of tickets already issued for travel on and after June 1, refund of difference of fares will not be admissible,” said an official release.
“As per existing provisions, senior citizens of minimum 60 years are eligible for concession in the basic fares of Mail and Express trains (including Duranto); and all inclusive fares of Rajdhani/Shatabdi/Jan Shatabdi trains. The element of concession is 30 per cent for men senior citizens and 50 per cent for women senior citizens,” said an official release. This was announced in the Railway Budget 2011-12.
