Mumbai commuters will soon use a National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) for cashless travel across the city.
The card can be used to buy tickets for metro, mono and suburban rail and buses, besides paying auto and taxi fares, parking charges and toll.
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority has conducted a meeting for the initiative, which has been launched by the Union Ministry of Urban Development.
The Ministry has identified UTI Infrastructure Technology and Services, a government-owned company as the national technology aggregator for the programme.
UTI Infra will offer MMRDA and other transit and para-transit corporations various services to implement unified ticketing solutions to avoid the repeated inconvenience of small cash transactions.
The unified card will be called ‘More Mumbai.’
“The effort is to ultimately rid the commuter of the daily piecemeal cash transactions. Mumbai is a very busy city and such a card will be a blessing,” said Mr Dilip Kawathkar, Joint Project Director, MMRDA.
Top officials of the railways, bus transport corporations and municipal corporations attended the meeting convened by MMRDA for the purpose.
