Air India introduces new
crew management system
Air India will now keep a more vigilant eye on the deployment of cockpit crew, followed by even the cabin crew getting more attention. This follows Air India introducing a new crew management system from June 1 to replace the old manual system that the airline had been using to decide who among the pool of crew would operate a particular flight. The first phase of the new system is operative for the cockpit crew while in the second phase the cabin crew along with support staff will be covered from the second half of this month. An official statement issued on Saturday states that the new system will “rule out the scope of any subjectivity and favouritism in the deployment and management of crew and other staff.” The new system, the first phase of which is already operational for cockpit crew, will mean that cockpit and cabin crew of the merged Air India are likely to get a fair and equitable duty and work conditions.
After implementation of this system Air India will be able to enhance safety of operation by meeting all regulatory requirements related to duty and rest apart from establishing accurate crew requirement for its current and future plan of operation, the statement adds.
