Seven new aero bridges procured for the Chennai airport terminal from Indonesia are likely to be delivered next week. They are at present lying inside the Chennai port, awaiting clearances.
This is the first lot of the 13 bridges that the Airports Authority of India had procured for Chennai airport. The second consignment is expected to arrive in a few days, said Mr Gaurav Ananya, Head of Operations, South Asia, Panprojects. The company, which is a division of the Swiss company Panalpina, is the end-to-end handling agent for the consignment.
According to Mr Ananya, the company is also involved in transporting 18 aero bridges for the Kolkota airport, which is also undergoing mordernisation similar to that of Chennai. This consignment will come in August and September, he told newspersons.
The bridges were carried by a car carrier with a facility to roll it out of the ship using a trailer. There was no need to lift the cargo, he said.
