The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Thursday stayed all works pertaining to corridor three of the Hyderabad Metro Rail (HMR) project in the busy Greenlands–Shiparamam stretch.
Mr Justice L. Narasimha Reddy of the Andhra Pradesh High Court passed these interim orders in a writ petition filed by a Joint Action Committee and 20 others challenging the implementation of the project in this stretch.
They complained that the alignment was changed and there was no consultation with the large number of affected people. The petitioners contested the application of AP Tram Ways Act to this project.
The main contention was that the alignment of the elevated line between Jubilee Hills Check Post and Green Lands was changed and the re-aligned line resulting in demolition of the structures owned by them would adversely affect their business activities.
With regards to applicability of the Tramways Act for this project, the judge said that there was a serious lacuna in launching of the project under the A.P. Tramways Act, though it is almost a full-fledged Railway.
The Judge reminded that, on an earlier occasion, the project was given off in a hurry and said that the hurried proposal has met its fate.
