Eastern Railway (ER) reported a 25 per cent increase in goods traffic earnings to over Rs 2,052 crore for the five-month period between April to August of 2014-15.
Earnings for the same period last fiscal stood at Rs 1,642 crore.
A bulk of its earnings during this five-month period, nearly 69 per cent or approximately Rs 1,411 crore, came from loading coal rakes.
Freight l oading
According to the Railways, freight loading during the period stood at over 26.18 million tonnes, an increase of nearly 10 per cent.
Coal loading, which accounted for 69 per cent or 18 million tonnes of the total freight loading for the April to August period, increased by approximately 11 per cent.
“This quantum jump in both freight loading and earnings in the current year is due to loading of coal rakes for long distances,” ER said in a release.
