The Government expects to come out with a final notification for electronic rickshaw (e-rickshaw) in the next 10 days.
The Delhi High Court has banned e-rickshaw citing lack of proper regulations. To bring out proper regulations that will revive e-rickshaw, the Central Government has come out with a draft notification proposing specification of parts and components to be used in such vehicles.
Based on these specifications e-rickshaw model will be tested by the Government specified agency. The compliant vehicles will then be registered by the Transport Department in the particular State or Union Territory.
“We have put out the draft notification for public comments and accordingly we will issue the final notification,” Road Transport, Highways and Shipping Minister Nitin Gadkari told reporters here.
According to the draft notification all the registered associations of e-rickshaw have been asked to provide specifications of the existing models by November 30.
Talking about the overall road sector, the Minister said that projects worth ₹50,000 crore were ready for being awarded and a target to build 30 km of roads a day has been set.
He said on the anvil is formation of NHAI-International to bid and construct roads overseas. Setting up a National Highways and Infrastructure Development Company, primarily dedicated for implementing highways projects along borders is also on the cards.
