IBS Software, a leading global provider of new generation IT solutions to the travel, transportation and logistics industries, has implemented its air cargo management solution suite iCargo in South African Airways (SAA), the flagship carrier of the Republic of South Africa.

The solution now manages the entire cargo movement of the airline amongst an impressive list of international destinations as well as an extensive domestic and intra-Africa network, a spokesman for IBS said here on Monday.

MOST DEFINITIVE

Consequent to this, iCargo will come to being used across the SAA network of 48 stations including 39 international locations, five self-handled warehouse facilities and its global cargo headquarters at Johannesburg.

Amongst the world's most definitive cargo solutions, iCargo is set to further improve process efficiencies, provide scalability, enhance profitability and fuel SAA's cargo business growth plans.

With the implementation of iCargo, South African Airways migrates from ?legacy' systems to a more cost effective and futuristic, flexible and adaptable and fully web-based IT platform.

This helps the integration of IT for all business functions such as sales, operations and revenue accounting into one coherent and consistent platform, the spokesman said.

SPEEDIER PROCESSING

As a result, the need for repeat data entry is eliminated while speeding up the end-to-end process.

The new solution covers the business process automation and management across all cargo and mail business functions, such as post-office mail handling, mail revenue accounting, cargo revenue accounting, cargo sales and operations, cargo terminal operations and revenue management.

SAA was involved in the co-development of the iCargo solution along with four other airlines.

iCargo will enable SAA Cargo to bring its entire network to a real-time basis, thus enabling improved communication to customers regarding the transport of their cargo, whilst allowing for improved yield management and profit optimization, said Mr Gary Hoyle, Chief Financial Officer, SAA Cargo.

IMPROVED MANAGEMENT

The integrated system allows for improved management of the overall cargo flow within the SAA network, he added.

Available both in licenced and SaaS (software as a service) modes, the iCargo solution suite's impressive list of customers across six continents include names such as All Nippon Airways, Jet Blue, Kingfisher Airlines, Nippon Cargo Airlines and Qantas.

South African Airways has always shown its willingness to lead technology change in the air cargo industry and IBS is proud to be their partner in this strategic business initiative, said Mr Akshay Shrivastava, Senior Vice-President and Global Head of Cargo Line of Business, IBS.

iCargo has captured the imagination of the air cargo community and in just a few years it has become the market leader among next generation cargo management solutions, he added.
