L. Radhakrishnan, Chairman, Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust, is likely to step from his present position shortly.

A Kerala cadre IAS officer, Radhakrishnan has been tipped to take over as the State Home Secretary.

He joined JN Port in September 2010. According to his terms of appointment he should be retiring only in February 2014.

At a function held on Monday to celebrate the port’s record performance last year, Radhakrishnan told the employees that he may be leaving them shortly.

Apparently, the Kerala Government has requested his service back but he needs the clearance from the Union Government.

Prior to joining JNPT, Radhakrishnan was the Chairman of Kerala Water Authority.

The three container terminals at JN Port together handled a total of 4.3 million TEUs last fiscal.

For the first time, throughput of Gateway Terminals exceeded 2 million TEUs and JNPT’s own terminal one million TEUs.

At JNPT, Radhakrishan had to handle several challenging tasks.

He took up the long-pending dredging project and awarded the contract on innovative terms.

But his efforts to award the contract for the fourth container terminal got delayed as the bidder backed out of the deal at the last moment.
