The Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) has undertaken an SEZ project on 2,077 hectares near the port which is expected to attract ₹3,000 crore of private investment and create close to 1.5 lakh jobs in the area.
Speaking at the CII International Logistics Summit in Mumbai, NN Kumar, Chairman, JNPT, said that other initiatives included doubling of the 44-km road network to the port to eight lanes from four lanes, building a multimodal logistics park on 100 hectares to facilitate movement of goods to ports, and tying up with APEC to setup a training centre at the port.
JNPT is implementing the 4th terminal with Singapore Port Authority making it one of the biggest FDI investments in India, he said, adding that the Port of Antwerp was willing to join JNPT for another project.
