Jet Airways will pay its February service tax dues by 12th of this month, a senior airline official said on Saturday.
“Yes there has been a slight delay of a few days in paying the service tax for the month but we will pay it along with interest by Monday. No accounts of the airline have been frozen,” the airline’s Senior Vice-President, Finance, Mr Mahalingam Shivkumar, told Business Line.
Service tax dues for February should have been deposited in the account latest by March 6, which the airline has failed to do. The airline’s monthly service tax payment amounts to about Rs 35 crore.
In the past few days, Kingfisher Airlines had its accounts frozen by the tax authorities after it failed to meet its financial liabilities. The airline was eventually suspended from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Clearing House, Billing and Settlement Plan and Cargo Accounts Settlement System. This made it difficult for travel agents globally to sell Kingfisher Airline’s tickets.
