Congress-led UDF government in Kerala today said it would go ahead with the Aranmula airport project in the private sector for which sanction was given by the previous LDF regime.
The Government, after discussions, has decided to go ahead with the project, the Industries Minister, Mr P.K. Kunhalikutty, told the Assembly.
Replying to a submission, Mr Kunhalikutty said the Government was of the view that the airport was necessary and it would accelerate growth of central Travancore.
Referring to complaints from local people that land not required for the airport project has also been mentioned as ’land for industrial purpose’, he said the Government would correct the mistake and land necessary for constructing the airport only would come under the purview of ‘industrial purposes’.
Necessary denotification order in this regard would be issued soon, he said.
Raising the issue, Mr K. Sivadaasan Nair (Cong), Member from Aranmula Assembly segment, said land notification order on the project had caused apprehension among the people and wanted the Government to take steps to alleviate their fears.
