The Cochin Port Trust has submitted before the Kerala High Court that the proposed convention centre and commercial complex by LuLu Group at Bolghatty Island will increase the arrival of ships and shore up the port’s revenues.
The port submitted that the land was reclaimed for commercial purposes and the allegations regarding the reclamation were false. The port is empowered to lease land for port-related as well as non-port activities, in accordance with the Government of India Land Policy guidelines.
Cyril George, port secretary, filed the statement in response to petitions challenging the decision of the port to transfer land to LuLu Group.
