Mihin Lanka which operates four flights a week on Colombo-Tiruchi-Colombo sector has decided to withdraw all the four flights to Tiruchi, effective June 1, following a drop in the load factor.
The load factor of the flights of the airline is reported to have fallen to about 30-40 per cent. The travel advisory issued by the island nation asking its nationals to avoid travel to Tamil Nadu is cited as the reason for the fall in passengers from Sri Lanka.
Another important factor cited , is the drop in the number of small-time traders who travel regularly to Colombo from Tiruchi.
According to S. Dharmaraj, Airport Director, no information has been received as yet, either official or informal, about the withdrawal of services from airline, the sources said.
