The Cabinet Committee on Infrastructure has approved the project of four laning of Vijayawada-Machilipatnam section of National Highway (NH)-9 in Andhra Pradesh under the National Highway Development Programme phase IV-A.
This project would be taken up on DBFOT (design, build, finance, operate and transfer) basis in BOT build, operate and transfer) (toll) mode of delivery.
According to a statement, the total estimated cost of the project is Rs 736 crore . Out of this, Rs 30 crore will be for land acquisition, resettlement and rehabilitation and pre-construction. The total length of the project is 64.6 km and it comes with a concession period of 20 years including construction phase of 24 months.
This road project is aimed at reducing the time and cost of travel for the traffic in this busy road stretch, particularly heavy transport vehicles playing between two busy cities of Vijayawada and the port town of Machilipatnam.
Further, this road project is expected to increase employment potential for local labourers during the project implementation.
The entire road project comes under the Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh.
