Any increase in railway fares in the ensuing Budget should be mild, the Sattur Chamber of Commerce and Industries has said.
In a letter addressed to the Union Railway Minister, Mr Dinesh Trivedi, the Chamber Secretary, Mr P.T.K.A. Balasubramanian, while acknowledging that fares have not been raised for quite some time, said fares were cheap compared to bus charges.
He said the fares should not be increased for a distance of 500 km for the following — passenger, express and sleeper classes and the increase effected if any, should be mild.
