The Indian Railways loaded 921.51 million tonnes (mt) of freight in the 2010-11 fiscal, marginally missing the loading target of 924 mt.
The target of 924 mt loading was a downward revision this year of two per cent over the budgeted estimate of 944 mt for the fiscal in 2010 Rail Budget.
The Railways blame the shortfall in target to the freight loadings taking a hit on account of the Jat agitation, ban on iron ore exports in certain States, amongst others.
However, supported by freight fare hikes and focusing on commodities that give higher earnings, the Railways managed to meet the freight earnings target. Freight earnings for fiscal 2011 were about Rs 62,900 crore.
