Multi-Functional Complexes (MFC) at Hubli and Mysore railway stations in Karnataka are ready.
MFCs provide better passenger facilities, including a food court, cyber cafe, telephone booths and chemists’ shops under one roof in selected stations to cater to tourist, business and religious interests.
Addressing the 13th Zonal Railway Users’ Consultative Committee (ZRUCC) meet here, Ashok Kumar Mital, general manager, South Western Railway (SWR), said, “MFCs at Hubli and Mysore railway stations are ready and are likely to be operational soon.”
MFC at Hubli is on 1,500 square metres of land and in Mysore it is on 700 square metres. Construction of MFC at Hubli and Mysore was entrusted to Railway Land Development Authority (RLDA)/Indian Railway Construction Organisation (IRCON).
In addition, eight railway stations – Bellary, Davangere, Shimoga Town, Tumkur, Yesvantpur, Bangarpet, Arsikere, and Birur – have been selected for construction of MFCs in the State, said Mital.
“Land for construction of MFCs has been identified in Bellary, Tumkur, Yesvantpur. The plan has been approved by the Railway Board. RLDA is yet to commence the work,” he added.
For Bangarpet and Arsikere MFCs, proposals have been sent to the Board. Regarding Shimoga Town and Davangere, RLDA has identified land and it is currently involved in dismantling the exiting structures. For Birur MFC, identification of land is in process.
Mital further said the work of Adarsh stations at Chamrajanagar, Londa, Hubli, Vasco and Nanjangud Town has been completed. For Adarsh stations works at Bagalkot, Gokak Road, Devanhalli Hindupur, Doddaballapur, Gauribidanur are various stages in progress.
SWR has sent the proposals for Haveri, Almatti, Badami, Kabakaputtur and Hosur for inclusion in Adarsh Stations list to the Railway Board in 2012-13 Budget.
Out of 31 members of ZRUCC constituted committee, 25 members representing various places in the jurisdiction of SWR were present at the meeting.
