In a major top-level change, the Indian Railways has announced the names of 13 general mangers for various zonal railways as well as production units. Some of the positions remained vacant for a long time.

For example, the country’s largest freight-loading zone, South East Central Railway, did not have a regular general manager for nearly 10 months, according to railway sources.

The new general managers for nine zonal railways are: Mr Arunendra Kumar for South East Central Railway, Bilaspur; Mr A.K. Verma, South Eastern Railway, Kolkata; Mr Indra Ghosh, East Coast Railway, Bhubaneswar; Mr Varun Bharthuar, East Central Railway, Hajipur (Patna); Mr G.C. Agarwal, Eastern Railway, Kolkata; Mr Mahesh Kumar, Western Railway, Mumbai; Mr S.K. Jain, Central Railway, Mumbai; Mr G.N. Asthana, South Central Railway, Secunderabad, and Mr S.V. Arya, West Central Railway, Jabalpur.

Two of these appointments are transfers in the same position. For example, prior to taking over his present position as general manager of East Central Railway, Mr Bharthuar was General Manager of Eastern Railway.

Similarly, Mr Asthana, now General Manager of South Central Railway, was General Manager of West Central Railway.

For others, the present appointments are promotions.

The new general managers of various production units are: Mr Rajeev Bhargava, Railway Wheel Factory, Bangalore; Mr B.N. Rajsekhar, Railway Coach Factory, Kapurthala, and Mr A.K. Khanna, Integral Coach Factory, Perambur.

In addition, Mr Jagdeo Kalia has been named General Manager for Railway Electrification, Allahabad.
