The proposed Kochi Metro Rail Project, the mass rapid transport system for the city, has received an allocation in the Budget. The budget has earmarked Rs 60 crore for the project.
Mr Tom Jose, Managing Director, Kochi Metro Rail Project, said that this is a great impetus to Kochi's biggest dream today and it is definitely going to accelerate the evolution of the project in a significant manner.
“We have been in constant touch with the Finance Ministry and the Planning Board trying to ensure a favourable investment decision and the Budget allocation goes to underline the Government's commitment to this project, he said.
The officials of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, which is implementing the Kochi Metro Rail Project, said here that the budgetary allocation is equal to giving in principle clearance to the project by the Government. This is for the first time that such a sizeable amount has been earmarked for the project, the officials said.
