The Karnataka Government has announced a compensation of Rs one lakh each to the families of passengers from the state killed in train mishap at Penukonda in Andhra Pradesh.
The Chief Minister, Mr D.V. Sadananda Gowda, also announced a compensation of Rs 25,000 to each of those injured.
The state has also deputed a team led by the Minister of Textiles, Mr Varthur Prakash, to the accident spot to assist those affected, Mr Gowda said in a release.
The accident took place at 3.15 AM when the Bangalore-bound Hampi Express apparently overshot a signal and collided with a stationary goods train at Penukonda station in Anantpur district of Andhra Pradesh, killing 14 people and injuring 35 others.
