V.O. Chidambaranar (VOC) Port at Tuticorin has handled a record traffic of 25.73 million tonnes in the financial year 2010-11 against the capacity of 23.72 mt, registering 8.16 per cent growth.
According to Mr A. Subbiah, Chairman, VOC Port Trust, in the last financial year, the port handled 4,67,752 TEUs of containers surpassing the previous best traffic of 4,39,948 TEUs handled in the year 2009-10, registering an increase of 6.32 per cent. This performance compared with the target set by the Ministry at 4,45,000 TEUs is higher by 5.11 per cent.
