Tuticorin-based V. O. Chidambaranar (VOC) Port has crossed 23 million mark in handling cargo for the period up to February 3. In a release to the press, Mr A. Subbiah, Chairman, VOC Port Trust, said that during the period, the port achieved a growth rate of 13.87 per cent. During the last financial year, this landmark was achieved only by March 10. The port crossed the 4.00 lakh TEUs mark on the container front by 4 February, 2012, which was achieved during the last financial year only by 14 February. He expressed confidence that the port would surpass the cargo traffic target of 26 million tonnes in the current financial year.
