Chennai seems to be in a holiday mood this summer.
According to an online study conducted by travel site TripAdvisor, 94 per cent of the people who took part in the poll from Chennai are planning a holiday this summer – this is the highest among the six major metros surveyed. And 72 per cent of the travellers are looking to take at least two breaks this season.
TripAdvisor had done this online study across 6,000 users of its site.
Around 90 per cent of travellers from Chennai said they would spend over Rs 1 lakh on holidays. And over 50 per cent of people prefer outdoor adventure holidays.
Chennai is ahead of the other metros in embracing technology. About 34 per cent people said they owned tablets; 59 per cent of them had downloaded at least one travel app on to their mobile phones. Over 60 per cent have used their mobile phones to plan a trip – the highest across all metros.
Where is Chennai headed this summer? Singapore, Bangkok, Dubai, Kuala Lumpur, Pattaya, London and New York figure in the international list. Within India, it is the usual suspects – Ooty, Goa, Puducherry and Munnar.
TripAdvisor also posed a hypothetical question — Are travellers open to the idea of mystery holidays — wherein the traveller indicates her budget and holiday preferences to her travel agent and he arranges a suitable package. The destination is not known till one arrives at the airport. And surprisingly, nearly half of Chennai is open to this concept.
But when it comes to romance, Chennai is still conservative – with the least percentage of people going to romantic/honeymoon getaways.
