Preliminary work on the proposed ring road connecting Vytila Mobility Hub-Kakkanad-Info Park-Kalamassery commenced here the other day.
The State Public Works Minister, Mr V.K. Ibrahim Kunju, said on the occasion that the proposed ring road would benefit the infrastructure development of Kochi greatly. The objective is to enhance infrastructure in the State on a par with international standards.
He called upon the people for their whole-hearted support for development activities in the State and said that rapid development is possible only with the public support.
Mr Tom Jose, managing director of Kochi Metro Rail Corporation Ltd, will be appointed as the special officer for the project.
The Minister also launched the work for straightening the bend at Poojarivalavu at the Seaport-Airport Road. He said about 50 cents of land was being acquired for straightening the bend at Poojarivalavu at about Rs 5.50 crore.
The straightening work at the highly accident-prone area will be completed within five months and opened up for traffic. With the completion of the work, there will be a four-lane road to the airport. The road will have a width of 30 meters including the median.
The construction will be carried out strictly in compliance with the specification of the Union Ministry for Surface Transport. The Roads and Bridges Development Corporation Kerala (RBDCK) has been entrusted with the construction work.
Mr A.P.M. Mohammed Haneesh, RBDCK managing director, said that the construction work could be launched within 20 days after floating the tender.
