The World’s largest aircraft Airbus A-380 made an emergency landing at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Hyderabad in the early hours of Sunday, after it was diverted due to a technical snag in the aircraft.
A-380 aircraft EK-385 was flying from Bangkok to Dubai when it was diverted to Hyderabad due to technical reasons. The A-380 landed at around 0345hrs with 481 people on board. Emirates Airlines made alternate arrangements for passengers to reach their destinations.
At RGIA, the Airport Rescue Fire Fighters (ARFF) immediately upgraded themselves from CAT-9 to CAT-10 category to ensure safe landing of the aircraft. The timely and well-coordinated action taken by GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd. staff along with its stakeholders ensures the readiness of the airport in times of such emergencies including its capability in handling A-380 aircraft, an official release said
This is the third time an Airbus A-380 landed at Hyderabad Airport within a span of 3 years. The first was a ferry flight in October 2008 and second time was in June 2011 when a commercial aircraft, EK-413 flying from Sydney to Dubai landed for a medical emergency.
