A. K. Bose, Manager, (Railway Operations), Haldia Dock Complex, under the Kolkata Port Trust, has been appointed Traffic Manager of Mormugao Port Trust, Goa.
Bose will succeed Vyapuri who took over as Traffic Manager of Chennai Port Trust a few months ago.
Mining ban impact
Meanwhile, with iron ore export traffic having virtually disappeared following a court order banning iron ore mining in Goa, Mormugao Port Trust is finding it difficult to make both ends meet, so much so that the employees have been encouraged to leave the port by opting for voluntary retirement scheme.
Financial crisis
The port authorities have approached the Union Government for help to tide over the crisis, it is learnt. Export of iron ore and pellets account for nearly 80 per cent the port’s total traffic. In 2010-11, the share of iron ore traffic was a little more than 40 million tonnes, out of the total traffic of 50 mt.
In 2011-12, the corresponding figures were 39 mt and 29.21 mt, respectively.
There was no iron ore traffic in the port since May last year.
