The Airports Authority of India hopes to clear Chennai airport today so that aircraft stranded there are able to leave.
In a statement, AAI said that they hope to start limited operations which will allow the aircraft stuck there to depart today. Officials declined to say by what time the first of the 33-35 aircraft stuck in Chennai airport will depart.
Sources said that the notice to airmen (NOTAM), which says that there will be no normal scheduled operations by commercial airlines from Chennai airport till at least December 6, 12 noon, still remains in force.
The statement adds that AAI is working on a war-footing for restarting affected infrastructure and navigational facilities at the airport.
