The Minister for Civil Aviation Ashok Gajapathi Raju has said the action against SpiceJet is a precautionary measure because of the books of the airline.
Safety might not receive the priority it ought to, he said, and added that no specific report on safety has been received as yet.
The heightened surveillance on SpiceJet was not connected with the FAA audit, which begins on Monday. “I don't think that anyone will direct DGCA,” he said.
The Minister admitted that the DGCA move could precipitate things for the airline as it (the DGCA directive) could be a double-edged sword. We would like the airline to perform and improve connectivity,” the Minister said.
