Air India Express (AIE) will operate 48 services per week from Kozhikode Airport to various Middle East destinations effective from October 28, a top AIE official said today.

In addition to the above, three flights per week to Mumbai, seven flights to Kochi and one flight a week to Thiruvananthapuram would also be operated, taking the total services to 59 per week, Ansbert D’Souza, Chief Operating Office, Air India Express, told reporters here while detailing the winter schedule of AIE.

Kozhikode will connect the cities of Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Doha, Baharain, Muscat and Damamm on a daily basis, he said, adding during the summer schedule some of these cities had flights three days flight per week.

He said that AIE’s main focus in the winter schedule is going to be the stability of operation and ensure there are no cancellations of flights.

Pointing that a major problem experienced in Kozhikode was flight diversion due to fog, he said all flight arrivals into Kozhikode international airport will be before 0500 hours or after 1100 hrs.

This will ensure that no flights are diverted from here to other airports due to bad weather conditions, he said.

AIE had been operating its services in Kerala for the last seven years even before many of the low cost airlines were established, he said.

“Eighty per cent of our operation from Kerala is to gulf countries,” he said, adding that “13 of our aircraft out of the 21 are based in Kerala”.
