Air India announced on Thursday that the airline has complied with the Minimum Joining Requirements for joining Star Alliance and will join the global alliance of airlines by July.
The announcement comes after two years of delays and Air India completing a successful migration to a single code since February.
The airline's entry into Star Alliance, a global alliance of 27 top carriers, will give passengers access to a network of 21,000 daily flights to 1,160 airports in 181 destinations. Passengers would also enjoy benefits of seamless transfers and access to lounge facilities world wide.
The new Passenger Service System of Air India will also enable passengers to redeem their accrued mileage points on other Star Alliance carriers and vice versa.
“These developments are seen as a major morale booster by the employees and the company is looking forward to host the joining ceremony by July 2011,” the spokesperson added.
Promotional fares a success
The national carrier also announced that the short term ‘promotional fares' has helped it achieve up to 85 per cent seat factor in Economy Class on its domestic network.
Adding that the company's revenue was also looking up, an Air India spokesperson said, “Following the 10-day disruption, these competitive special fares were made available on 107 sectors across the network.”
