Malaysia-based low-cost carrier AirAsia today launched its new loyalty programme for frequent fliers, called AirAsia BIG Loyalty. The overhauled points system prioritises the number of flights a passenger takes over the prices they pay for fares or the distance covered.

The four-status system moves from Red status - for passengers who fly up to 13 AirAsia flights a year - to Gold and Platinum and Black, for those who fly over 50 times a year. Long-haul and Fly-Thru flights count as two short-haul flights, under the new calculation. The free membership lasts a lifetime and passengers also qualify for massive discounts on ticket prices. The points can be earned and redeemed in Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines, India, Singapore, China, Taiwan, Japan, South Korea, Australia and New Zealand.

The new Freedom Flyer programme was launched by Tony Fernandes, AirAsia group CEO, Datuk Kamarudin Meranun, Group CEO, AirAsia X and Eddy Leong, CEO, AirAsia BIG Loyalty.

AirAsia is Asia's largest low-cost carrier by passengers carried, and it's extensive network covers 120 destinations.
