New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT) is growing in size and quality, according to its Chairman P. Tamilvanan.
Speaking after unfurling the national flag on the occasion of Independence Day celebrations, he said the port had increased productivity in all aspects — including handling of container, liquid, dry bulk and break bulk cargoes — because of the contributions made by the port employees and cargo handling workers.
There was also good growth in cruise traffic at the port, he said.
He explained the progress achieved in various developmental activities being taken up at the port.
Tamilvanan said the major ports in India were handling a sizeable quantity of cargo and non-major ports, including private ports, were coming up rapidly.
The efforts and contributions of the Deputy Chairman and other staff members had helped improve greenery in and around the port, he said.
