Alstom Transport is gearing up to roll out the first train set for the Chennai metro rail project in early 2014.
The company, part of the French transport and energy infrastructure company Alstom SA, has a metro coach manufacturing unit in Sri City in Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh.
Alstom set up the facility at the special manufacturing economic zone in Chittoor, about 60 km from Chennai.
Investment plan
It has outlined an investment of about Rs 500 crore with a potential to employ about 400 people.
The company manages entire transport system solutions, including rolling stocks (coaches), signalling and infrastructure, and offers turnkey solutions. It is stated to be among the leaders in the high speed rail/train sector.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy on Wednesday visited the Alstom facility during his tour of Sri City.
