South Korea’s Asiana Airlines offered $10,000 as initial compensation to every passenger on a flight that crashed in San Francisco last month, local media reported Monday.
The money is compensation for medical and transportation expenses to passengers on the Boeing 777 that crashed July 6 when the pilot landed short of the runway.
The initial payouts will be deducted from possible final compensation, DongA Ilbo quoting an Asiana spokeswoman as saying.
Three Chinese girls were killed and dozens of passengers were injured when the plane hit a sea wall which severed its landing gear and fuselage.
It was the first fatal airline accident in the US since 2009.
Twelve victims reportedly filed a lawsuit against Boeing in San Francisco’s federal district court, alleging that the airplane manufacturer was at fault.
