Turkish firm Celebi, which offers ground handling services in Delhi and Mumbai airports, and Frankfurt airport operator Fraport were among the two international companies which participated in the first pre-bid meeting called for inviting bids for modernising Chennai and Lucknow airports.
Sources told Business Line that the Tatas, GVK and Sahara were among the Indian companies which participated in the pre-bid meeting.
The Government is keen to offer at least six airports including Kolkata and Guwahati apart from Chennai and Lucknow to the private sector for modernisation.
The Government hopes to award the contract for Chennai by early January. “No serious issues were raised at the meeting. We have agreed to their request for a site visit. The interested parties will be shown Lucknow airport on September 28 and Chennai airport on October 8,” sources indicated.
Industry analysts say that it is still too early to say whether all the companies that participated in Friday’s meeting will actually be putting in bids for one of the two airports.
