The second phase of the Chennai airport development work that was excluded due to the airport privatisation will be fully completed in three years, according to Chennai airport director Deepak Shastri.
A global consultant will be soon appointed to prepare the design for the remaining work, including developing the old terminal, he told newspersons.
“We lost nearly three years due to the privatisation plan of the airport. We need to catch up. Work is expected to start in six months,” he said.
Recently, the Centre decided to suspend the privatisation plan and do the development work on its own. An initial outlay of Rs 1,000 crore of the total Rs 2,300-crore project has been allocated for the development work, which includes expansion of both domestic and international terminals.
