The Chennai Metro Rail’s elevated corridor viaduct between Saidapet ramp and the airport has been completed.

The 4.32-km viaduct starts from the Officers Training Academy and ends at the Chennai airport with two station buildings at Meenambakkam and the airport. The viaduct includes 1.40 km cut and cover section.

The contract for this stretch was awarded to the Chennai-based URC Construction.

After CMRL commissioned the rail service between Koyambedu and Alandur, the construction activity with the lifting of the last segment of the viaduct between OTA and airport was over on January 14, says a press release from Chennai Metro Rail Ltd.

Discount for groups

The sub-structure and super structure of elevated corridor is ready from Saidapet ramp to airport, and the trial run from Little Mount to OTA (in both up and down lines) was completed on October 16 and the balance stretch is also ready for trial run. Other finishing works of viaduct also will be fully over by March-end, the release said.

Meanwhile, the CRML has offered 10 per cent discount for group tickets for easier and affordable travel for group travellers, including students from schools and colleges.

Store value card

CMRL has also introduced the Store Value Card, which is the same as a smart card but with an advantage. This smart card facility is easily transferable to family and friends. It can be recharged at the ticket vending machines and ticket office machine. In case the store value card is returned, the balance amount available in this card is refunded fully, according to CMRL.

The initial store value of the card is ₹50 and a refundable deposit for the card is ₹50.Further recharges can be made with a minimum balance of ₹100. Maximum top-up is up to ₹3000 depending on the number of trips as per usage. The Validity of the store value card is one year from the time of purchase or recharge whichever is later. You Save 10 per cent discount on fare during every journey.

Unlimited rides

CMRL’s tourist card features unlimited ride and can be purchased on all days. This card can be used within 30 days from the date of purchase. The cost of the tourist card with unlimited rides is ₹100 (fare) plus ₹50 (refundable deposit).

CMRL said that it has sold a total of 26.33 lakh tickets, 26.01 lakh tokens, 30,084 smart cards and 427 group tickets.
