The Union Minister for Civil Aviation, P Ashok Gajapathi Raju, today met the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, N Chandrababu Naidu, and discussed the State Government’s plans to develop 14 airports.
According to a statement from the Chief Minister’s Office, during the meeting, issues of land acquisition, infrastructure facilities required for the new airports planned by the government and investments and revenue from the airports to the State Government were discussed.
The Chief Minister said of the 14 airports proposed, Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam and Tirupati would be developed as international airports.
Speaking to mediapersons later, the Civil Aviation Minister said that the construction of international airports at Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam and Tirupati was promised by the earlier government and is being implemented by the NDA Government.
Raju said that they would require land for the runway expansion of Vijayawada airport and that necessary infrastructure needed to be upgraded. The airport development is the responsibility of the Centre and the State could cooperate by providing land required for the airport.
