To strengthen coastal security, the Indian Coast Guard is planning to establish a remote station at Belekeri in Uttara Kannada district.

A press release by the office of the Commander of Coast Guard in Karnataka at New Mangalore said that there are two remote stations in Karnataka – Bhatkal in Uttara Kannada district and Surthkal in Dakshina Kannada district – to strengthen coastal security.

In order to enhance seamless surveillance coverage, a survey is in progress at Belekeri in Uttara Kannada district to establish the third remote station in Karnataka.

Efforts are also being made to commission the coast guard air enclave at the old terminal building of the Mangalore airport, it said.

One offshore patrol vessel is planned to be based in New Mangalore by next year, once the dedicated berth is allotted by the New Mangalore Port Trust.

The release said that the Coast Guard will conduct a motor cycle rally from Mangaluru to Karwar during the first week of February. The rally will halt at various fishing villages in the coastal region and interact with fishermen in those villages.

The headquarters of Coast Guard in Karnataka at New Mangalore had celebrated its 38th Raising Day on February 1. Prior to this, the Coast Guard conducted various activities, it added.
