The non-executive staff of the Dredging Corporation of India (DCI) went on a flash strike from Wednesday morning for three days in protest against the move of the Union Government to sell 100 per cent stake in the PSU.
They have been agitating for quite some time against the move and one employee in the HR department, N. Venkatesh, even committed suicide in protest against the move and expressing apprehension about his future. Ex gratia of Rs 5 lakhs was paid to the family by the DCI and the State Government also sanctioned Rs 5 lakhs to the family.
Earlier, the DCI Non-executive Staff Association served a strike notice on the management.
The executive staff also went on strike in solidarity with the non-executive staff.
The DCI was set up here in 1976.
