Delhi is likely to face three to four spells of heavy fog during the winter with the first dense fog of the season expected on December 29 morning, the IMD officials indicated at a media interaction organised by Delhi airport here on Thursday.

“Major fog will not be before December 29. But we will have to wait. Our main attention (for dense fog) is for January,” RK Jenamani, Director, IMD, Delhi Region and Indira Gandhi International Airport, said. He added that the number of days Delhi airport suffered from CAT III visibility issues is much less than what is witnessed at other airports in north India.

The dense fog could affect the normal movement of flights though Delhi airport and the stakeholders are taking efforts to ensure least inconvenience to the passengers.

Videsh Kumar Jaipuriar, Chief Executive Officer, Delhi International Airport Limited said that on the airside the airport staff will be providing follow-me services to ensure seamless movement of aircraft in dense fog conditions. Besides, the terminal team will ensure that updated flight information is provided apart from taking care of other needs of passengers and airlines. The airport will also be installing help desks at entry gates at the various terminals where information on cancellations and delays will be displayed.

In addition, the airport’s website will provide live flight information for both domestic and international airlines, park and fly whereby passengers can book their car parking online, come to the airport, park and fly, and also use interactive airport maps.
