In the wake of complaints of noise pollution caused by Metro trains, the DMRC has resorted to regular greasing of tracks on sharp curves and erecting noise barriers at some locations, the government said today.
It, however, maintained that such disturbances were harmless for the residents living close to Metro lines.
“A few complaints have been received from individuals and groups,” Union Minister of State for Urban Development Mr Sougata Roy said in response to a question about noise created by Metro trains, in the Lok Sabha.
“DMRC has informed that there are no specific limits for transportation noise in India. Some levels of noise and vibration are natural characteristics of train operations. These are harmless and cause no damage to residents living close to metro lines,” Mr Roy said.
The minister said that on receiving the complaints, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) conducted studies and also obtained expert opinions.
“Based on these expert opinions, DMRC has resorted to regular greasing of tracks on sharp curves. Noise barriers have been erected at some locations and softer pad at rail seat have also been provided at some locations to minimise the noise and vibrations,” Mr Roy said.
