Domestic airlines flew 1.13 crore passengers in August, registering a 17 per cent increase over the 96.90 lakh passengers flown during the same period in the previous year.
IndiGo retained the number one spot having flown 47.57 lakh passengers in August followed by Jet Airways (15.61 lakh) and Air India (14.41 lakh). SpiceJet carried 14.04 lakh passengers while Go Air flew 10.14 lakh passengers, Vistara flew 4.23 lakh and AirAsia carried 5.37 lakh passengers.
SpiceJet reported the highest passenger load factor of 93.6 per cent during the month among all the domestic airlines. Passenger load factor shows how many of the total seats on offer by each airline are getting filled.
GoAir reported a PLF of 84.6 per cent, IndiGo (82.8 per cent), Air India (82.3 per cent), while Vistara reported a PLF of 83.6 per cent and Air Asia 76.2 per cent.
SpiceJet reported the best on-time performance (OTP) among all the airlines at 87.4 per cent at the four metro airports of Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Bengaluru. IndiGo and GoAir collectively took the second spot with both reporting an OTP of 87.2 per cent followed by Vistara (83.6 per cent) and Jet Airways and JetLite (82.6 per cent).
The industry paid over ₹2.84 crore to the over 1.37 lakh passengers affected by cancellations, delays and those who were denied boarding in August.
